The Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Various Kinds Of Coffee Machines

By Allen Hunterslieyes

If you drink coffee every morning, or many times throughout the day, buying your own coffee maker can be a sensible investment. There are three general kinds of coffee makers available today, and these are traditional espresso machines, bean-to-cup coffee machines, and capsule coffee machines. Each one of these has its share of advantages and disadvantages.

Conventional espresso machines

Advantages

This kind of coffee machine tends to be much more affordable and lighter compared to bean-to-cup variants. They use ground coffee, which is also much cheaper and gives more options than pods that are used in capsule coffee brewers. In addition, you can set the amount of ground coffee and water to put in to your coffee, which means you can easily change the intensity of your coffee according to your preference.

Disadvantages

Unfortunately, this kind of coffee machine can be intimidating or confusing because you need to know how to fill and use the portafilter properly. It can also be troublesome to maintain because in contrast to other coffee makers, you have to clean it often to ensure no occlusions will develop in the portafilter.

Bean-to-cup coffee machines

PROS

This type of coffee machine includes a grinder so you can break down coffee beans whenever you want so that you can produce the freshest cup of joe. Unlike traditional espresso makers, they are often fully automatic, so with just a couple of button presses, you already have your hot coffee. Just like traditional espresso coffeemakers, they can accommodate a wide selection of coffee beans. Verobar and Verocafe Bosch Kaffeemaschine are examples of coffee brewers with an automatic bean-to-cup feature.

Disadvantages

They are usually more costly than other kinds of coffee maker. In addition, if you plan to store your coffee machine after each use, if you have modest counter space, or you do not drink coffee as much, this type may not be the best choice for you.

Capsule coffee makers

Advantages

If you wish to make coffee quickly and as clean as possible, then a capsule coffee maker will suit you best. They are an excellent option if you do not intend to use a coffee machine often, as the sealed capsules ensure the freshness of the coffee. They are typically more compact and portable, making them easy to store after each use.

CONS

The selection of coffee put into capsules is not that many, and more often than not, you can use only one brand of capsules in them. Although the machine is cheaper to purchase, the capsules may be more costly in the long run than using coffee beans or ground coffee. Also, since the coffee comes prepackaged, you have less power over the strength and volume of your coffee.
