Make Some Great Thanksgiving Chocolate Desserts

By Tameka Ware

Thanksgiving chocolate desserts can really finish off a table. While pumpkin pie may be traditional, sometimes it is good to shake up those traditions a little with something new. Adding this favorite flavor to the table is never a bad thing and it could become the new tradition.

Turning a regular dessert into something more holiday related is very simple when you use spices. Try adding some pumpkin pie spice to things other than pies. For example, a simple mousse can radiate holiday goodness when you add some spice. Another good addition is cayenne pepper, which works well with cocoa to create a more interesting taste combination.

There are plenty of options when it comes to creating desserts. Pies are always a hit and you can vary them according to individual tastes. A simple cream pie is good, but you could also use creme de cocoa liqueur to create a delightfully adult mousse pie. Fudge or chess pies are another fun way to go.

Bars and brownies are perfect if you are hosting a Thanksgiving dinner, since they allow you to set up a dessert bar and let the guests serve themselves. There are a multitude of great recipes for making up your brownies and cakes to cut into bars. You could even do something as simple as a cocoa version of Rice Krispy squares. Mix it up by making brownies with a layer of pumpkin cream or topping a bar with mint or maple to help it fit in with the autumn theme.

Any new recipes should be tried ahead of time. If the recipe needs tweaking or is just not what you expected, then you can come up with something new before you put it in front of everyone. Keep the best recipes to use year after year and they will quickly become family favorites.

You can find recipes online at many different sites. It is usually best to look for ones that are rated so you can see how well they do. Check the comments to see if there are any improvements that other bakers have discovered. You can skip the mistakes and make sure that your baked items come out perfectly. Food blogs are another good option, since they usually test the recipe and offer suggestions to perfect it.

Another option is to dig through your cookbooks or ask friends and family members for their best recipes using chocolates. Then put your own twist on them. Adding a new flavoring or changing a few ingredients can make an old recipe new again. You might reduce the amount of sugar and fat or use whole wheat flour, etc. To make the recipe healthier, as well.

Thanksgiving chocolate desserts are a good way to mix it up a little. If you are getting tired of the same old foods every year, then it might be time to try something new. Adding cocoa or chocolates is never a bad way to go and you can be sure that your family will be pleased.
