Some Tips To Install A Pocket Door Frame

By Andrea Davidson

A pocket door frame is often installed to conceal a certain door. This makes a certain room versatile enough and because it would simply be isolated to different areas of the house if possible. This can be a better way of maximizing the space of your living rooms. You can even accomplish it all by yourself if you are equipped with the right knowledge and patience as well. To aid you in the whole process, some effective tips are provided.

Distinguish whether a certain wall that you picked is an excellent candidate for your installation. The wall should be wide to accommodate the size that is twice the door. You would also check whether a certain wall is bearing a heavy load. You can identify this by simply checking the placement of your wall in the house.

Verify that the wall should not have any electrical wiring or some pipes that is running through it. Search for the switches and electrical outlets to ensure safety. If you have an attic or a certain basement, wiring may be rerouted through it. But, if you find some pipes, you can never put a frame in it.

Use a saw with a metallic blade in changing the header and see to it that it can cut the nails for you to take out the jamb. A certain blade that is made for woods must also be used in removing all the boards. To create a shallow cut, always do it carefully. Make use of the other portion of your drywall that is seen in the door to form a certain frame that will be used for the other header.

Take away the existing door by pulling it off simply from its moldings. This would usually create a particular gap which could be used to further access the shims. You can use a saw in the bunch of nails which is around the shims. Tip the blade of the saw in a downward motion to have a shallow cut in the drywall and to remove it from the studs.

Remove the drywall from the header as well as leaving a margin of about two to three inches under the ceiling. You can remove the it using another reciprocating saw. Cut away all the studs to make enough room for the frame. Cut the nails that join the studs to the soleplate as well.

Find out the dimension of the header and add about three to four inches to its length and add it further to the tallness of the soleplate. This is important most especially if you have a carpeted floor. Brackets can be placed to the floor simply if there are no carpets.

Cut the top of the stud to a particular length to create a certain support for another header. Know the measure of the rough opening and put the newer stud in it and observe a distance that is similar to its opposing side. Put the newer header with the use of some nails and screws and cut and install it to the soleplate in the floor.

Finish the installation of your pocket door frame according to the instructions of the manufacturer. Be sure that when framing, the rough opening is plumb and the header is at level or else, it will not slide smoothly. Use some trim screws in the head of the jamb to make it less noticeable as well. You may also paint it prior to the instructions so as to prevent moisture from causing it to warp.
