Great Factors To Consider While Buying Multi Function Printers

By Dillon Abernathy

Multi function printers can perform several tasks all of which are found in the same machine. If you are a student who wants the convenience of scanning, printing and copying, then this is the ideal thing for you. It easier to quickly copy notes from your classmate than writing it down or you can even scan it in pictures and later share it with family and friends. The printer companies have realized this, and are including important features.

When buying any printing machine, there is need to first determine what workload the machine will be performing. This is in terms of the number of pages you want it to do in a week. Another thing under workload is sharability. It could be that you want to share the machine with three or more people. If, for instance, you want the type that can print 400 pages in a month and which also can be shared and trusted to produce copies which are of high quality, then the laser type is your best bet.

Next important thing is cost ownership. This basically has to do with the cost of replacing the cartridges. One way to save money is by purchasing higher capacity cartridges or buying them in bulk. This way, you purchase them cheaply.

Speed of a given machine is something that you should give consideration. This will again be determined by your workload. If you have a smaller workload, speed may not be such an important element. However, should you want to produce large amount of copies, you have to go for a gadget with faster speed. You can do this by purchasing laser printers.

Another thing that has to be considered is media support. In normal circumstances, inkjet printers can hold basic kinds of papers. They include legal, letter and envelope formats. But in cases where you need to print on a special medium, it is important to confirm that the machine is compatible with your media before making the purchase.

Print and scan resolution is also an important feature to look for when purchasing a printing machine. By print resolution is meant dots per inch or the quality of the print. The average is 4800x1200 dots per inch (dpi). On the other hand, scan resolution is very important especially if you intend to make huge numbers of copies that are of high quality.

In an environment that is increasingly becoming a networked one, connection is a very important element. You need to ensure that you have bought the right cables both in terms of quality and length. In normal cases, connection will be through a USB port. However, most printers have Ethernet ports that allow them to be connected to networks.

The other thing you ought to consider is the dimensions of a given machine. There are printers that load the media in a bottom tray, while others load it from the top. multi function printers will also require additional space for opening the lid for the purposes of copying and scanning. This means that you have to consider where you will put the machine especially if it happens that you have space considerations.
