Why A Prosthodontist Should Be Your Cosmetic Dentist

By Emory Somervale

If you haven't ever heard of a prosthodontist, don't be alarmed. This is a legitimized specialisation in dentistry and they're trained to replace and revive missing teeth to reach more naturally looking teeth. First they graduate from dentistry then they study and train for 3 years more to get their specialization in teeth replacement. While their job might seem like what cosmetic dentist practices do, it's not a similar thing because prosthodontists not only deal with the teeth but the form of the face as well since the jaw and teeth affect the lower part of your face.

Requirement Instead of Cosmetic. Almost all of the work of a prosthodontist is required rather than just cosmetic. They replace missing teeth because the teeth had been knocked out accidentally, have fallen out because of disease or some other unfortunate event. They'll also restore the whole mouth which requires abilities in dentures, implants and other regular talents in dentistry. A regular dentist cannot do this simply because they are trained to just cope with one tooth at a time rather than have to reconstruct the mouth, making sure it is functional for chewing and so that it supports the form of the face. They improve the health, function and appearance of their patients. This is why prosthodontics are also called dental prosthetics.

How Prosthodontists Train. A prosthodontist will currently have a basic dentistry degree. They then will specialise in cosmetic restoration. This is in part why they make some of the finest cosmetic dentists. But they're actually not the sort of specialists you'll go to for a routine bleaching or having veneers put on to even out your perfectly functional teeth. Prosthodontists handle much more heavy conditions like restoring an implant and improving the operation of your teeth while perfecting the appearance of a smile. They're the final resort in dentistry since they deal with the worst that may happen to your teeth and mouth, when you lose your teeth completely. A regular dentist will mend the tooth, but a specialist will replace it. The United States, Canada and Australia will credit prosthodontist consultants where in they are recognized by the country's dental associations.

Sub-specialty in Prosthodontics. Maxillofacial prosthetics is the only sub speciality in dentistry. 1 or 2 prosthodontists train to become experts in Oral and Maxillofacial Prosthodontics. To do that they take one year fellowship to train as Maxillofacial prostheticains whereby they conduct oral surgery and treatments with prosthodontic. They treat patients who've maxillofacial defects in the neck and head that has been caused by accidents, serious illnesses, cancer, surgery, or birth imperfections.

There are more types of prostheses apart from the teeth that include synthetic nose, eyes and other imperative facial features that make up the human face. This type of treatment uses the experience from different experts who coordinate and work together. Dentists in this sub specialisation are highly skilled and admired in their field that they are known as so called shatterproof dentists.
