Things You Should Consider When Buying A Bow

By Justin Phillips

First thing first, decide how you are going to use the bow. If you are a hunter, thing about the weight of the bow along with arm length. You don't want something bulky holding you down. If you are a target archer, you want a longer bow to help you stay stable.

Pick if you want a recurve bow, compound, cross bow or long bow. Compound bows will always be easier and a favorite. IF you are just starting out consider buying a recurve bow to learn the basics when getting started. It is best to not rely on compound bows in the beginning so you learn stability and draw properly. Recurve bows are relatively cheap and great for just starting out.

Evaluate your budget before deciding on a type of bow. Recurves are often much less expensive than compound bows, and the accessories needed to get started with a recurve are far fewer.

Picking your draw length is easy with help. To figure out the draw length you will need a friend to measure for you. Simply pretend you are pulling a bow with a fist instead. Now put the fist against the wall while standing properly. Someone should measure the wall to the corner of your mouth.

When you shop pick a good draw weight. The force of the string being pulled back is the draw weight. When you are a target archer frequently shooting you want a lesser draw. While a man can use an average 50 pound draw a woman will want something about 30 pounds or so instead.

Buy your bow from a reputable archery specialist. To make sure you are getting the best equipment and the best advice, seek out a store that has an experienced archer that will help you pick out the perfect bow, as opposed to a larger, less-specialized store where the sales associates may not be as knowledgeable.
