Make sure your passports are up-to-date by checking the expiration date. Many countries have specific rules concerning your passport. A country may decide to not let you enter if your passport is expiring within a certain amount of time. These tend to range from three to six months, but in some cases can reach eight months or even a year.

Be prepared before you go camping and/or hiking by obtaining maps of where you are going. And make sure they are with you at all times. You should also consider taking a long a GPS unit or compass in case you lose your way.

When planning a trip with your pet, be sure to call ahead and make sure your pet will be welcome at the hotel and ask about any fees or restrictions. Make sure that you take the time to research a variety of different hotels in order to get the best place for your money, as well as to make sure you get a place that meets both you and your pet's needs.

Be careful when receiving any emails that offer great travel deals. Unless you have done business with this company before or signed up to receive these sorts of emails, avoid opening them.

Do not panic if your bags have not arrived at your destination. Simply head to the nearest airport official and ask where you should report lost luggage. With your flight information in hand, you will fill out the required paperwork for reporting the loss. Lost luggage generally does reappear, and the airline will reconnect you with your bags promptly.

If a hotel is fully booked, you may still be in luck; ask for a room that is listed as out of service. Out-of-service rooms may have minor problems like peeling paint that would cause the hotel not to wish to rent them.

Try packing dark clothes for vacation, especially when you are packing pants and dresses. This type of clothing will hide dirt and wrinkles, things that will naturally happen to your clothes when traveling. You can add small pieces of color with accessories to stay festive.

Keep in mind that you are not the only person staying in your hotel. When you stay at a hotel make sure you are a courteous neighbor and not do anything you wouldn't want anyone else doing, like slamming the door. It doesn't matter what time of day it is, there's always someone suffering from jet lag and trying to get a little sleep. That doesn't mean you have to be absolutely silent, but keep noise levels reasonable.

Pets must be well acclimated to the modes of transportation you will be using if you plan to take them with you on your travels. They need to be thoroughly trained in leash and command use as well as kept on a leash during any portion of travel where people are present. Maintaining control of your dog throughout your trip assures both his own safety and that of others you come in contact with.

It's important to keep in mind that there are many guests in every hotel. When you stay at a hotel make sure you are a courteous neighbor and not do anything you wouldn't want anyone else doing, like slamming the door. Even during the day people may be sleeping, either from jet lag or just a late night the night before. A little consideration and common sense are all that are needed to keep things quiet for your fellow guests; monastic silence is not required.

If you need a hotel room, and the hotel is booked solid, see if they will let you stay in a room that is not in service. Out-of-service rooms may have minor problems like peeling paint that would cause the hotel not to wish to rent them.

If you are planning to travel abroad, make sure to purchase your electric adapter here before you leave. If you wait to buy one until you arrive at the airport or your destination, they will be much more expensive.

When traveling with kids, make sure they all carry identification. Give your child enough change to call you from a pay phone. Make sure you have recent pictures of your child, and know his or her height and weight.

In summary, most vacation horror stories occur when people fail to prepare correctly for their vacations. The pointers presented in this article can help you properly plan a vacation which will be memorable and stress-free.
